I really love interpreting motion data from the most mundane sources and seeing these beautiful forms take shape. I’d like to form these shapes in sheet metal, and paint them with automotive paint. On a very small scale however, maybe each of these pieces would be 4–5 inches tall. Each piece is about 4 seconds of motion capture.
So the previsualization for my Singularities installation seems to be complete, I will continue to alter a few small things, and actually render it within an existing space with a real person, rather than a generic human stand-in.
So my first goal at Ohio State University seems to be quite the challenging one. Not only must I engineer, design, and create multiple custom parts for a mechanism, I must have it completed in the span of one month. Here is a sample of the design thus far.
Experimental Television Center – Doepfer Vocoder Synthesis from Nick Bontrager on Vimeo.
I just found out that this was linked on a couple of synth-blogs just after it was uploaded, I wondered where the 400 views came from all of a sudden.

“Dear Nick Bontrager,

Time to make some iPhone apps.
UPDATE: WordPress just ate itself and I lost everything. Luckily my posts were backed up, but it looks like I’ll have to redo all the aesthetics.
UPDATE [AGAIN]: Got lucky and found yet another backup of the directory content. TA-DA. Also, just realized iPhone SDK requires a Mac. So it looks like I won’t be working on that anytime soon.
UPDATE [NEXT DAY]: Found out just to get an app on your iPhone past the emulation stage, you have to pay Apple $75-100. Bogus.
So I just got back from New York.
Spent a week in residency at the Experimental TV Center. A few videos are on Vimeo, more to come once I offload my cameras and capture some tapes.
I’m engaged, and couldn’t be happier.
A couple of group shows since my last update, and a couple more in the following months.
Sketches of some upcoming projects and works in progress to be uploaded as soon as possible.
